Constipation: Herbal tea for constipation, difficult bowel movements

Constipation and intestinal complaints are common complaints. Medicinal herbs also provide excellent services here. Below are some tips and a recipe for a herbal mixture that will support digestion and intestinal function. Constipation and slow, difficult stools are caused by intestinal contents remaining in the large intestine for a long time. Because more water than normal is extracted from the stool, it can become very hard. Not everyone has bowel movements equally often. Some people have bowel movements three times a day, others 3 times a week. Constipation means that the stool comes less often and is harder than you are used to. If it concerns short-term constipation that occurs once, there is no reason to be concerned. You may not have a bowel movement for several days. If the complaints are recurring, they last longer and if you have pain or pressure in the abdomen and a bloated feeling, you should take measures. In this case, visit your doctor.
There are a number of different characteristics of constipation:

  • Constipation without any need to go to the toilet
  • Very hard stools, difficult to expel and tends to go back in
  • Hard blackish dry stools, sometimes small hard droppings
  • Soft sticky stools
  • Stool that is difficult to push out

Some causes for this include:

  • insufficient exercise
  • low-fiber diet
  • medication use
  • innate predisposition
  • withholding and delaying bowel movements

Some intestinal diseases can also be the cause of constipation, as well as excessive use of laxatives. Hemorrhoids can also cause defecation to be delayed and made difficult. It is important to consume sufficient fluid every day, preferably 1.5 liters per day, and to consume fiber-rich food. Brown bread, fruit, vegetables, brown rice, legumes and dried fruits such as apricots, currants, plums and raisins are also rich in fiber. Also make sure you get enough exercise. Drinking 1 or 2 glasses of lukewarm water on an empty stomach can also help. Buttermilk, yogurt, gingerbread and orange juice also have a mild laxative effect.
