Which clothes slim you and which clothes make you fat?

If you are a plus size it is quite difficult to find nice clothes. However, in the past this was much more difficult. Nowadays almost every clothing brand also has large sizes. This does not mean that the fit is always suitable for heavy people.

Short sweaters for fat people, nice that they are there, but they usually don’t look good. Certain colors and motifs on fabrics are flattering, others accentuate your posture. What should you pay attention to if you want to dress slim?

Black clothing is flattering, white makes you look fatter

It is well known that dark clothing, especially black, has a slimming effect on the eye. Black is flattering. Dark blue and other dark colors are also distracting. Light colors, on the other hand, accentuate your figure and are therefore more suitable for skinny people. You look fatter in white clothes.

  • If you are (too) heavy, wear dark clothing. If you are too thin, wear white or light colors.
  • Wear clothes in the same color, this also has a undressing effect. So a red blouse with red pants looks slimmer than a red blouse with yellow pants. If you choose dark red, it will look slimmer than light red.

Stripes on clothes horizontally or vertically?

If you are (too) heavy, it has always been claimed that horizontal stripes on clothes have a fattening effect. It accentuates the width of your body parts. Horizontally striped clothes would therefore be especially suitable if you are too thin and want to appear fatter. (Recent scientific research at the University of York, however, showed that subjects actually thought people in photos wearing horizontally striped clothing looked slimmer than people with vertical stripes on their clothing.) Vertical stripes are also slimming, but it is best to wear clothing without stripes. or motifs. Clothing in a solid color looks the sleekest. So if you want to appear fatter, wear white clothes; pants that are just a little too short, short socks and flat shoes.

Corset

Back with a vengeance: the corset. Mainly worn by women, sometimes also by men. The corset is worn tightly, the body (and especially the waist) is constricted with the laces of the corset, and a slim(er) waist is the result. In 2014, the corset even became a trend under the name Waist Trainer.

Clothes that are too tight or too loose make you look fatter

Tight clothing unfavorably accentuates an obese person. Some space in your clothes around your body is good, but too much space makes it look too colossal. So choose clothes that are just loose enough to leave rolls of fat free, but avoid colossal clothes that are so wide that they make you look unnecessarily big. Don’t buy clothes that are a few sizes too big for you. You look fatter in that.

Thin fabrics, smooth clothes

Thin, fine fabrics are flattering, while heavy fabrics such as stiff denim and corduroy actually add bulk. Trousers without pockets and buttons, in a dark color with tapered legs, look flattering, while trousers with large pockets, buttons on the waistband, belts and wide legs make you look fatter. Hip pants are extra bulky, and side pockets are not recommended at all. Straight legs or flared (wide) trouser legs also make you look fatter. Tapered legs make your legs slimmer. Jeans or trousers that have a corrective effect are also good for appearing slimmer.

Dress longer and therefore appear slimmer

When you wear a heel you appear taller and therefore slimmer. Don’t choose mid-length trousers or knee-length socks, which will make your legs look shorter, but opt for long trousers whose legs even fall a little over your shoes. Your legs will then appear longer and therefore you will appear a bit slimmer. Do not wear short blouses, but rather longer models.

Sleeves

Long sleeves or half-length sleeves camouflage thick upper arms. Short sleeves or bare arms look counterproductive if you have fat arms.

Jewellery

Choose a slightly longer necklace instead of a necklace that fits tightly around your neck. A chain that hangs a little long looks a bit dressy.

Attitude

It is nicer to walk upright, pull your shoulders back slightly and keep your chin slightly up.

Underwear

If you are overweight, it is better to wear high underwear and not small pants that will cause your fat rolls to hang over. It doesn’t fit well and it doesn’t look nice. Corrective, supportive underwear that is not too tight has a slimming effect. Buy yourself a good bra in a lingerie store, from a good brand. A bra that fits well and provides good support is a bit more expensive but looks kilos slimmer than a bra that fits poorly, pulls up, irritates, etc. Poorly fitting, cheap bras are more expensive in the long term because you wear them for a shorter time because they quickly lose their shape in the wash. Many women have been wearing the same size bra for years, even though that size is no longer correct. Therefore, pay attention to a good bra that provides sufficient support and fits well.
