Facial masks, an extra boost for your skin

We all want radiant skin. This can be achieved by thoroughly cleaning the skin every day and applying cream. If you want to give your skin an extra boost, you can apply a facial mask. What types of face masks are there and a number of tips for optimal effectiveness.

How a face mask works

By temporarily closing the skin, the facial mask ensures that moisture and heat are retained by the skin. This ensures better blood flow to the skin, so that skin cells are better supplied with oxygen, they are nourished and waste products can be further removed. Your skin gets rid of loose flakes and becomes smoother.

Shapes of face masks

Masks are available in different shapes. Powders, paste, cream, jelly and foam. In addition, there are different compositions that have a different effect on the skin.

  • Oxygen mask : this mask has a cleansing effect and reduces the pores. Relaxes the skin and softens tired facial features.
  • Vitamin mask : often contains oxygen A and E and has an activating effect. They improve the resistance of your skin and initiate the magical regeneration process (self-healing capacity of your skin).
  • Paraffin mask : This mask ensures that the horny cells of your skin soften, making them easy to remove
  • Hydrating mask : Provides immediate refreshment, provides moisture to the skin and soothes your skin. Skin that is provided with sufficient moisture is smooth and relaxed.
  • Astringent mask : This mask is especially for oily skin. These masks contain purifying active ingredients that deeply cleanse the pores and regulate sebum production.
  • Sulfur mask : These masks have a cleansing effect and remove excess fat and dead skin cells. They are especially suitable for oily skin

Tips and tricks

  • Put your hair back in a ponytail, or tie a headband/scarf around your head. You don’t want your face mask to get into your hair or vice versa.
  • If you have dry skin, it is advisable to first apply a little night cream
  • For best results, apply the mask after a steam bath
  • Wash your face and neck or clean them with some cleansing lotion
  • You can apply a large layer, but leave the skin around your eyes and mouth exposed when applying. The skin there is extra thin and therefore extra sensitive.
  • Apply a mask to your face and neck and leave it on for no longer than 20 minutes for a homemade mask or the time indicated on the packaging for a ready-made product
  • Try to relax your face as much as possible during the application
  • You can also soften your eyes while the mask is working with a cool eye mask, cucumber slices on the eyes or (used) green tea bags.
  • rinse the mask with warm or lukewarm water
  • dab your face with a towel to remove the mask residue
