Insomnia: Herbal tea for insomnia

Sleep is necessary for the health of the mind and body. This is a herbal mixture for herbal tea that can be used for insomnia. The tea is soothing and calming.

Insomnia

Insomnia is very common and can have a wide variety of causes. It is not useful to describe it in detail here because this information can be found elsewhere in abundance. Sleep disorders do not necessarily have to be the result of an illness. In children this often involves adjustment problems. In adults, this is often due to stress, smoking or medication use.
However, it is also important that you ensure sufficient exercise and fresh air. Regularity in the things you do is also important. Try to put your problems aside and avoid drinking coffee just before going to sleep. Go to sleep on time and at regular times. A glass of warm milk with honey and a warm shower or bath may also help. In some cases, the use of sleeping pills is temporarily necessary. However, try to postpone this for as long as possible (in consultation with your doctor) because there is a real risk of habituation.
Below you will find a recipe for a herbal mixture for support.

Recipe

  • 20 grams of lime blossom
  • 10 grams of St. John’s wort
  • 10 grams of Nettle
  • 10 grams of Chamomile
  • 10 grams of lemon balm

Preparation and use :
Pour 1 tablespoon of herb mixture with boiling hot water and let it steep for 10 minutes. The tea is then strained. Take 2 cups (warm) daily, possibly sweetened with honey, of which 1 cup about 1 hour before going to sleep.
In mild (or sporadic) cases of insomnia, lime blossom (60 grams) is sufficient. Preparation and use as above.

NB

If you are taking antidepressants or antipsychotics, you may not be allowed to use St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforata). St. John’s wort can also influence the effect of other medications. Therefore, always read the package leaflet first or, if in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist. If necessary, you may omit the St. John’s wort from the mixture.

Important

These prescriptions are NOT intended to replace your current medications. If you have persistent and serious complaints, you should always consult a doctor.
