Tips for beautiful whiter teeth

No one likes to be told that their mouth stinks. Brown teeth don’t make you happy either. Good dental care is sometimes not enough to be satisfied with your teeth. Your teeth are too yellow and you would prefer them to be a little whiter. The latter, of course, without damaging your teeth and affecting tooth enamel. How to whiten your teeth so you can show a radiant smile again.

Dental care

Beautiful teeth require good dental care. This means brushing your teeth at least twice a day with a soft toothbrush and then using mouthwash. In the evening before brushing, first clean the space between your teeth thoroughly with a toothpick or even better with a toothbrush. A toothbrush is a piece of iron wire with bristles on it. You have them in different thicknesses. The thicker, the sturdier. Not everyone is the same, so you have to try out which brush fits best between your teeth. That depends on the space between your teeth. It works best with a little toothpaste on the brush. You can buy toothbrushes at the drugstore. Chewing gum containing Xylitol several times a day is also a good idea. Xylitol inhibits bacterial growth and prevents plaque from adhering to the teeth. Furthermore, Xylitol stimulates the production of antibacterial saliva.
Beautiful teeth start with well-cared for teeth.

Disadvantageous for beautiful teeth

A number of things have a bad influence on the color of your teeth:

  • Smoking.
  • Drinking coffee, tea and red wine.
  • A tongue piercing. The sharp edges of the piercing touch your teeth, causing damage to the enamel. This increases the risk of cavities.
  • Antibiotics. Frequent use of antibiotics has a detrimental effect on the teeth, especially in children, but also in adults.
  • Teeth whitening with citric acid, salt or baking soda. These are acids and abrasives and they may have some effect in the short term, but in the longer term they will damage your tooth enamel.

How do you get your teeth whiter?

  • You can have them whitened at the dentist, but this is expensive. You will then lose between 150 and 300 euros.
  • Nowadays you can also whiten your teeth at home. There are various sets available for this purpose. The Whitelight product seems to be very good. The price is around 25 euros. For this you will receive two tubes of peroxide gel, a mouthguard and a UV light transmitter. You put a little bit of gel in the mouthguard. Not too much, one tube contains enough for at least five bleaching sessions. You make sure that the gel is well distributed and you put the mouthguard in your mouth. Attach the transmitter and within ten minutes your teeth will be beautifully white. It is wise to rinse your mouth thoroughly with mouthwash after the treatment. This means that no residual peroxide gel comes into prolonged contact with your mucous membranes. It is very wise to ask your dentist or dental hygienist in advance. They can then check whether your teeth are healthy enough and whether you have any cavities or leaking fillings. If you do have one, it is better not to use Whitelight.
  • You can also just make your teeth look whiter by using a red lipstick. And in the summer when you get a tan, your teeth also appear whiter.

Home remedies

There are also a number of home remedies that will whiten your teeth, such as:

  • eating strawberries and dark chocolate or chewing sage leaves or basil leaves
  • chew Norit and then brush your teeth thoroughly.

Many people find the browning of tooth enamel disturbing, but it is actually a natural phenomenon. As we get older, the teeth naturally become slightly browner.
