Ear reflexology and facial reflexology

If we look carefully at an auricle, we can recognize the features of a fetus: the head in the earlobe, the spine in the ear fold, the legs pulled up in the fetal position. It reflects the human body in proportion. By stimulating ear reflex points, we can alleviate certain functional and organic pains or disturbances. The face also carries reflex zones of the entire body and reflects its pain.

Ear reflexology

Ear reflexology is often associated with acupuncture or aupressure treatments or with other forms of reflexology. It has proven to be very useful in rheumatic pain, nerve pain and bone and joint pain. Ear reflex therapy has been popular for years to treat smoking addiction, but an ear reflex massage can also be important for eating disorders, tension syndromes and inflammation of the stomach and intestines.
Tinnitus has also been explained by ear reflex zone therapy. These tones, which some people hear inside their ears, are associated with disorders of certain glands, organs or systems. A body part exhibiting a certain condition would vibrate at different frequencies than when it is healthy.

Origin Ear reflexology

Ear reflex zone therapy, also called auriculotherapy, was first discovered 2000 years ago in the Nei Jing , an ancient Chinese text that discussed the relationship between the ear and internal organs. The Frenchman Nogier drew up a detailed map of ear reflexes in the 1950s, introducing ear reflexology to the West.

Types of ear massage

Micromassage of the ear
The massage is done with a special drop-shaped needle. This treatment can be painful for the patient but is very effective. A Chinese proverb says: All painful ear points are effective therapy points. This treatment can be applied every day in acute conditions and every two to three weeks in chronic cases.
Electronic micromassage
Points where electrical resistance is lower are treated with electronic stimuli. This is measured with an electronic device, the electrostimulators ensure that the acupuncture is painless.
Moxa aromatherapy
A glowing tip of an (aroma) perfumed stick is held near the painful area. It is removed as soon as the patient feels warmth. The treatment is repeated 10 times slowly, without burning the skin.
Adhesive technique
This technique is applied after the micromassage and the moxa aroma therapy. A crystal ball is held firmly in place with a plaster on a specific area. The patient should massage it 3 to 4 times every day.
Acupuncture
A small sterile needle is inserted into the point to be treated and remains approximately there. Usually about five to ten treatments are needed.

The treatment

First, a micromassage is given with the fingers to create a pleasant feeling for the patient. Certain points are then massaged in particular using one of the above treatments. So-called permanent needles are attached to a specific ear point with a plaster. The patient must stimulate it daily. A session lasts approximately 30 minutes, with each point varying from 1 to 5 minutes. On average, a treatment session consists of two sessions per week over a period of five to weeks. This technique has no side effects, except the feeling when the needles are inserted.

Dien’cham’ or facial reflexology

The face also carries reflex zones of the entire body and reflects its pain. Dien’cham’ has 3 levels of point knowledge from 30 reflex points to 500 reflex points, making it possible to treat yourself. The first symptoms of the disease can be tempered with dien’cham . In case of serious illness, or if the pain persists, dien’cham cannot replace traditional treatments, but it can increase effectiveness and speed up recovery.

The treatment

With dien’cham’ the face is massaged with a finger or with the rounded end of a pencil or ballpoint pen. The index finger is flexed and pressure is applied to each chosen point back and forth for 10 to 20 seconds, diagonally or clockwise. The following treatments can easily be performed yourself:

  • Insomnia
  • Dull skin
  • Psoriasis: to prevent the skin from drying out or eczema or psorias from developing.
  • Energetic massage: this massage regulates blood pressure, strengthens the heart, stomach, lungs and intestines, calms the nerves, recharges sexual energy and is excellent against asthma and palpitations.
