Take care of your skin

Your skin needs to be well cared for to look beautiful and young. But how can you take good care of your skin?

A good cleaner removes impurities without leaving traces or a greasy layer. Avoid soap and water. The skin is acidic, while soap is alkaline; This damages the natural acidic protective layer of the skin. An oil-based cleanser is suitable for all skin types and removes make-up very effectively. Water-soluble cleansers and oil-based cleansers are ideal for oily and combination skin. Cream cleansers are good for dry skin. If you have sensitive skin, avoid scented and colored cleansers and any products that irritate your skin.

The skin continuously produces new cells and sheds old ones. Normal skin renews its cells every 28 days. This process slows down as you get older, causing the skin to look dull and lifeless. You can exfoliate the skin with scrub masks, cream or gel scrubs, which means that dead skin cells are removed. Exfoliate your face every two to three days. If you have acne or sensitive skin, use a peeling instead of a scrub mask.

Using a tonic after cleansing is essential. The tonic refreshes the skin and removes remaining impurities and cleanser. Avoid toners or alcohol bases, even if you have oily skin, because alcohol reduces the skin’s moisture level.

Treat your skin to a deep cleansing with a steam bath or sauna. Remove all makeup and cleanse your skin. Fill a basin with almost boiling water and add three drops of essential oil. Use lavender and mandarin for normal skin; chamomile and rose for dry skin; lemon and eucalyptus for oily skin; and lavender and cypress for combination skin. Once you have added the oil, stir the water briefly. Hold your head about 20 to 30 cm above the water and steam for 3 minutes with a towel over your head and the tub. The steam opens the pores and allows you to prepare your skin for a facial cleanser. Avoid this treatment if you have sensitive facial skin or rosacea. Steaming is also not recommended if you are pregnant or suffer from asthma.

Face masks

Use a mask once a week. For best results, apply the mask after a steam bath and do not leave it on longer than the instructions indicate. When choosing a mask, you should pay attention to the following points. Mud and clay masks are ideal for deep cleansing. Gel masks form a thin film on the face and when washing remove all dead cells and excess fat. Rich cream masks are good for dry and older skin. Sulfur masks work well for oily and problem skin, but are absolutely unsuitable for sensitive, dry skin. Fast-acting masks are very useful when you are short on time.
